Amazon announced2025 Second Quarter Financial ReportDriven by the development of generative AI technology, AWS's diversified businesses, including cloud services, Alexa+ voice assistant, retail and logistics, generated total revenue of US$1677 billion, a 13% year-on-year increase. Among them, AI cloud business became the main source of profit, and it was announced that conversational advertising monetization would be introduced in Alexa+.
AI engine drives comprehensive performance acceleration
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that generative AI is gradually changing user experience and business operations, and Amazon has introduced multiple AI models and agent systems in voice assistants, robots, development tools, and cloud services.
Among them, the upgraded voice assistant Alexa+ has now expanded to millions of users and has more natural conversation capabilities and proactive recommendation functions. It also launched a new IDE integrated development environment "Kiro" to help developers quickly develop AI agents.
Additionally, AWS's cloud division launched "Bedrock AgentCore" and "Strands Agents" services to help businesses more easily build and deploy AI applications. Using the "DeepFleet" AI model, Amazon has increased the collaborative efficiency of over one million logistics robots worldwide by 10%, demonstrating the maturity and scalability of its internal AI applications.
AWS's profits hit a new high as its three major businesses surged
The AWS division reported a 17.5% year-over-year increase in revenue to $309 billion, with operating profit reaching $102 billion, firmly establishing itself as the backbone of Amazon's profitability. North American revenue reached $1001 billion, an 11% year-over-year increase, while international revenue reached $368 billion, a 16% increase.
Overall profit was US$192 billion, up 31% from the same period last year, while net profit increased to US$182 billion.
Although operating cash flow increased by 12% to US$1211 billion, Amazon's free cash flow decreased significantly to US$182 billion, a significant drop from US$530 billion in the same period last year, indicating that Amazon's investment in the development of cutting-edge technologies such as AI research and development, infrastructure and satellite networks has increased significantly.
Alexa + conversational advertising is a potential gold mine
In its AI applications, Amazon emphasized that Alexa+ will introduce a "conversational advertising" monetization model in the future. Andy Jassy noted that as users interact more frequently with Alexa+, recommendations naturally inserted into AI conversations will become a new revenue source.
Currently, Alexa+ is free for Amazon Prime members, while non-members must subscribe for $20 per month. Andy Jassy also hinted at the possibility of an ad-free version in the future, and continued exploration of diverse subscription models.

AWS Cloud and Global Collaboration Expand Rapidly

Facing continued competition from competitors like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, Amazon has clearly chosen to advance both internally and externally, strengthening its own model and application development while also actively collaborating with industry partners to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem.
