Amazon earlierAnnounce, which was previously announced in early OctoberAmazon Luna, a cloud game streaming service, is about to undergo a revamp. The biggest highlight of this revision is not only that it is available as a free additional benefit for Amazon Prime members, but also that it introduces a new multiplayer game mode called "GameNight".
Core innovation: "GameNight" transforms the phone into a controller, focusing on party fun
Compared with Luna or most other game streaming services in the past, the "GameNight" mode is the core differentiation strategy of Amazon's revision this time.
"GameNight" features a series of party games suitable for group play. Its most significant feature is that the game's controls have been redesigned to be controllable directly via smartphone. This move is clearly intended to minimize the barrier to entry for play, allowing friends and family to easily join in when gathering, without having to prepare multiple game controllers.
Currently, the games included in "GameNight" include the well-known "The Jackbox Party Pack 9", as well as the redesigned "Tetris Effect: Connected" and "Angry Birds".
Not only that, "GameNight" also includes at least one Amazon original game, "Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg", in which players will debate in a virtual court with AI-driven Snoop Dogg as the judge.
The controller game library is expanded simultaneously, adding 3A masterpieces
In addition to "GameNight" which focuses on mobile phone control, the revamped Luna service still retains a library of games that require a physical controller (supports Bluetooth or Amazon's own Luna Controller Wi-Fi controller).
In conjunction with this update, Amazon also announced the addition of several heavyweight works to the free game library for Prime members of the Luna service, including "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle", "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II", and "Hogwarts Legacy", which have just been launched on Xbox Game Pass.
For users who have subscribed to the Prime service, being able to play these 3A games through streaming without having to pay extra for Game Pass will be an incentive to use it.
Luna Premium offers a larger game library
If the free game library provided to Prime members is still not enough, users can also choose to pay an additional $10 per month to subscribe to the more advanced Luna Premium plan (this plan is the previous Luna+ renamed), which will unlock a larger game lineup.
Very attractive to Prime members
Overall, the revamped Luna service is clearly very attractive to existing Amazon Prime subscribers. While cloud streaming may still experience some latency and buffering issues, the added value of Prime membership will be significantly enhanced by the inclusion of "Game Night" games, perfect for party-style fun, and the ability to play select AAA titles without a Game Pass subscription, all at no additional cost.
