Last year, Amazon opened its first brick-and-mortar bookstore in its headquarters in Seattle. Besides allowing consumers to browse books, it also sells its Kindle e-reader devices and accessories, and even offers a book subscription service. The company prioritizes book listings based on online bookstore ratings and reader reviews, suggesting that the books it sells in its physical store are genuinely popular with readers, rather than deliberately manipulated.
In addition to allowing readers to read books in physical bookstores, Amazon believes that this approach can also increase the rate of online e-book downloads.
