Amazon plans to invest $100 billion in North Carolina to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure, and plans to provide 500 new high-skilled jobs and thousands of jobs in its AWS data center supply chain.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested $120 billion in North Carolina, contributing $131 billion to the state's gross domestic product, providing 24000 full-time and part-time jobs at its facilities, and 26000 indirect jobs in surrounding stores and service industries.
In addition, Amazon also stated that it will provide technical training and education programs in North Carolina, including data center technician training, fiber optic splicing technology seminars, and STEM awareness and related learning opportunities for kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school students.
In addition, Amazon has launched the Amazon Richmond County Community Fund, which will allocate $15, with a maximum sponsorship amount of $1, to help promote STEM education, sustainability, economic development, and promote workforce development and community well-being.
At the same time, Amazon also announced its investment in renewable energy in North Carolina, including the construction of two solar and wind power plants. Once fully operational, it is expected that the plants will generate enough carbon-free energy to power 76316 American households annually.
