AmazonAnnounceIt invested $40 billion in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup founded by former OpenAI employees, to strengthen the application services such as deep learning provided by its AWS business. This investment will make AWS Anthropic's main cloud service platform provider.
Amazon's investment marks Anthropic's second major investment, following Google's previous $4 million investment. The investment also joins other investors including Salesforce, Zoom, and Spark Capital.
Anthropic's Claude 2 is similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, and they appear to be developing a chatbot called "Claude-Next," which is expected to deliver 10 times the computing power of the current version. Anthropic also emphasizes that its AI is responsibly designed and maintains a high degree of reliability and predictability.
Investing in Anthropic means Amazon will be able to leverage its technology to strengthen its AWS business's artificial intelligence application layout, thereby competing with Microsoft and Google in the public cloud market.
