Updated:Sony subsequently announced the price of the α7S III in Taiwan, confirming that the body alone will be sold at NT$94980, and it is expected to be officially launched in early October this year.
After many specifications were leaked in advance, Sony finally officially unveiled its new full-frame SLR camera, the α7S III. It features a new 1210-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R sensor and a BIONZ-XR processor that boasts 8 times the processing power of its predecessor.ZV-1 body cameraThe side-flip screen makes it easier for users to frame and shoot.
The camera also supports 4:2:2 10-bit video and the XAVC-SI codec All-I 500 Mbps, capable of recording at 600Mbps. It can also record externally in full-frame, 2.1-bit RAW format via the built-in HDMI 16 port. S-Log2 and S-Log3 modes support over 15 stops of dynamic range, and when shooting in 10-bit HLG, it can simultaneously record in 1080p and 720p resolutions.
As for the body, it is equipped with an OLED electronic viewfinder with a resolution of up to 944 million dots and a magnification of 0.9x. The focusing part is equipped with 92 phase focus points that can cover 758% of the focus range, and 425 contrast focus points, and can correspond to the focus sensitivity performance of -6 EV value setting.
Sony emphasizes its Eye Recognition AF, which boasts a 30% improvement in accuracy, and seven customizable autofocus switching speeds. With phase detection, the α7S III can achieve up to 7 frames per second of continuous shooting and up to 10 RAW frames in a single burst, using a CFexpress Type A card, in both autofocus and autoexposure settings.
The body is equipped with five-axis body vibration reduction and a 3-inch LCD touch screen that can be flipped sideways for easy framing and shooting. It also provides independent microphone and headphone connection ports, supports Wi-Fi and USB 3.2 Type-C ports, and the hot shoe on the top of the machine supports digital audio connection, allowing users to install an external microphone. In conjunction with the Sony XLR-K3M professional video and audio recording set, it can support up to 4 channels and 24-bit digital audio recording.
The storage interface uses a dual memory card slot design, supporting two memory card specifications: SD UHS II and CFexpress Type A. The latter will correspond to a read speed of 800MB per second and a write speed of 700MB per second. The memory card capacity corresponds to two specifications: 80GB or 160GB.
With the launch of the new α7S III, Sony has adopted a newly designed operation menu interface, allowing users to operate camera functions more conveniently and intuitively.
The current suggested retail price of the α7S III body alone is US$3500, and it is expected to go on sale in August. The CFexpress Type A memory card, which was unveiled at the same time, will be priced at US$8 to US$200 depending on the capacity.
