This is Airbnb's first attempt at a new service globally, and it will be offered first in Japan. In collaboration with non-profit organizations such as the Peace Boat Disaster Support Center, Japan Platform, and Peace Wind Japan, Airbnb will provide evacuation accommodation in selected areas across 47 prefectures in the event of a large-scale natural disaster such as an earthquake or tsunami in Japan. These accommodations will also be developed into accommodation resources for medical and emergency response personnel.
Airbnb.orgAirbnb is a nonprofit organization established by Airbnb that will leverage the Airbnb platform to connect those in need of temporary housing with Airbnb hosts willing to provide housing as a form of assistance. Since its establishment in 2020, Airbnb.org has helped over 25 people around the world find temporary housing and provide 160 million nights.
All donations made through Airbnb.org will be used to house evacuees, and all accommodations provided through Airbnb.org will be free of charge.
