This TV series adaptation project originated from the cooperation agreement signed by Ubisoft and Netflix five years ago. Roberto Patino, the screenwriter who has participated in "DMZ", "Westworld" and "Jax Teller", and David Wiener, the producer of "Halo", "Homecoming" and "The Killing", will serve as the main creators and executive producers of the series.
Ubisoft stated that this live-action series will be an action-packed story focusing on two mysterious factions from the Assassin's Creed series, spanning ancient and modern times and civilizations: the Templars, who advocate for control in exchange for order, and the Assassin Brotherhood, who champion humanity's free will. Through the intertwined destinies of the characters across different historical eras, the series will convey a profound exploration of freedom, faith, and humanity.
Margaret Boykin, Executive Producer of Film and Television at Ubisoft, stated that the team is committed to creating a series that will appeal to both existing fans of the games and those unfamiliar with the series. She emphasized, "We want this to be more than just an entertaining retelling of the original, but a profound exploration of the enduring themes and world of Assassin's Creed."
Roberto Patino and David Wiener also added that, beyond the game's familiar parkour action, stealth assassinations, and grand scale, they place a greater emphasis on character psychology, depicting complex themes of power, desire, violence, and revenge. They further stated, "This will be more than just an action drama; it will explore the human struggle with faith, destiny, and values across time and space."
In addition to the live-action Assassin's Creed series, Netflix will also launch another animated series adapted from Ubisoft's classic IP, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, this fall, demonstrating its determination to continue to delve into game-adapted film and television content.
