The return of Fortnite to the App Store in the United States shows that Epic Games has won a certain degree of victory in its ongoing battle with Apple over the past five years (at least in the EU and the United States).
The earliest dispute between Epic Games and Apple was that Apple believed that Epic Games' behavior of guiding players to pay for purchases in the "Fortnite" game through external channels clearly violated Apple's regulations on the App Store platform. However, Epic Games believed that Apple's collection of 30% or varying percentages of profit sharing fees was unreasonable, so the two parties launched a court lawsuit for many years.
As the court subsequently ruled that Apple's actions involved violations of market competition and interference in market pricing, it required Apple to stop restricting other payment methods within the App to avoid affecting users' rights to consume through third-party payment methods.
As for the European market, it is based on the fact that EU regulators have determined that Apple's practices violate the Digital Markets Act, and therefore require it to open up third-party payment methods and allow users to obtain applications or games through third-party software markets. This also allows Epic Games to claim to provide Epic Games Store services for iOS platforms within the EU.
Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the US on iPhones and iPads… and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the EU! It'll show up in Search soon!
