Reuters News ReportIt is said that in the face of the impact of the US export ban, Huawei plans to resume the production of 5G connected mobile phone products as early as the end of this year by using processor and chip design technology produced in China by companies such as SMIC, and will enter the market in early 2024.
However, Huawei and SMIC have not responded to this report.
Relevant news indicates that Huawei expects to use SMIC's N+1 process technology and its own electronic design automation software to create chip products that are approximately equivalent to the market's 7nm process. At the same time, SMIC will also produce chip products with a process below 14nm, which are expected to be used in different levels of mobile phone products.
As for the initial production of chips, the yield rate may be less than 50%, which will also result in low shipments of Huawei's resumed 5G connected mobile phones, possibly only around 200 million to 400 million units.
Prior to this, there have been many rumors that Huawei might regain US approval to export and supply 5G networking chips, but it is obviously still restricted by the US government ban. Even if Qualcomm provides new processors, they are only "customized" versions that support 4G networking functions.
