A startup founded by three former Apple employeesSoftware Applications Incorporated, hoping to change the traditional operating system usage model through automatically generated artificial intelligence.
Software Applications Incorporated was co-founded by CEO Ari Weinstein, CTO Conrad Kramer, and Kim Beverett, who worked at Apple for more than 10 years and was responsible for services such as Safari, iMessage, and FaceTime.
Prior to this, Ari Weinstein and Conrad Kramer sold their iOS platform app service, Workflow, to Apple in 2017 and subsequently joined the company. Workflow later became the widely used "Shortcuts" feature in iOS and macOS operating systems, allowing users to easily schedule tasks and execute specific functions on their iPhone or Mac with a single click.
Ari Weinstein said he hopes to simplify the operating system experience through automatically generated artificial intelligence technology, and use OpenAI's GPT and Meta's Llama 2 large natural language model to build a system prototype, hoping to allow users to operate operating system functions in a more intuitive and simple way.
Compared to current operating systems that still require interaction through mouse clicks, keyboard input and other operation modes, Ari Weinstein believes that future operating systems will be able to interact through natural language, allowing users to complete various basic operations in a simpler way and reduce the time spent searching for specific function options.
Considering that current interactions on mobile devices are completed in just a few seconds, operations on desktop computers usually take minutes or hours on average. Therefore, Ari Weinstein expects that shortening the time required for operations through automatically generated artificial intelligence will bring greater benefits.
Software Applications Incorporated plans to recruit more technical talent next year, including interface designers and machine learning experts. It has already received approximately $650 million in funding from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Figma CEO Dylan Field, and a number of Silicon Valley investors.
Software Applications Incorporated has not yet launched its service products, but its official website allows users to operate Apple's early Max OS 8 operating system interface in web form.
