During the MWC 2018 exhibition, HMD Global Marketing Chief Pekka Rantala said that this year will be "A year of proactive action", and revealed that there will be more market strategies and exciting new phones to be launched. In addition to the Nokia 8 Sirocco announced earlier, HMD Global actually plans to launch a new phone called Nokia 8 Pro, which will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of memory, and a 2160-inch full-size screen with a resolution of 1080 × 18 and an 9:6.01 display ratio. In addition, it will support wireless charging.
Although HMD Global did not perform particularly well in the Taiwanese market last year, it did receive a good response in the European market and other regions with its Nokia brand that focuses on user experience, with total sales of more than 1000 million smartphones and more than 6000 million feature phones. Therefore, in addition to launching the Nokia 8110 4G Reloaded, its marketing strategy this year is to seize more feature phone market demand with the Nokia Origianl series.
Compared to last year's emphasis on attracting market attention with the Nokia brand, Pekka Rantala said that this year the company will take a more proactive approach to the market. In addition to continuing to attract the consumer market with Nokia's past product design, quality and user experience, the company also plans to further meet consumer expectations, including deciding on new replica models based on support for feature phones, and in the smartphone product segment, it is expected to launch higher-end models. Therefore, the Nokia 9, which was rumored last year, may be released this year.
As for the Nokia 8 Pro that has been rumored this time, it is likely to continue the appearance design of Nokia 8 launched last year, but with enhanced specifications such as processor and memory. It will include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB or 8GB memory specifications, and will be equipped with a 2160-inch full-size screen with a resolution of 1080 × 18 and an 9:6.01 display ratio design. The camera functions will use a main camera composed of dual 1600-megapixel and Zeiss lenses, and a 1300-megapixel video camera. It is expected to also support front and rear dual-shot functions. In addition, it will also add wireless charging function and a battery power design of up to 4000mAh.
However, if HMD Global is determined to launch a flagship model named Nokia 9, it means that Nokia 8 Pro will be positioned as a high-end model launched in the first half of the year, while Nokia 9 is expected to be launched in the second half of the year.
