Uber and Uber Eats announced today (February 3rd) that they will combine their resources to launch an annual charity program with the Hongdao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation. Addressing the two most pressing needs of the elderly—food and transportation—Uber Eats launched the "Send a Warm Gift" campaign, encouraging users to donate through food orders; while Uber will continue to address the challenges of medical care and mobility for seniors through ride discounts.
Enter the serial number to "Send a Warm Gift," you save money, and the platform donates.
To make charitable acts more relevant to daily life, Uber Eats has launched a simple participation mechanism. From now until February 22, users can enjoy a 5% discount (maximum discount of NT$20) on their food delivery orders (excluding fresh produce/groceries/takeout) totaling NT$299 or more by entering the discount code "Send a Warm Gift" in the Uber Eats App.
For every order that meets the above criteria, Uber Eats will simultaneously donate NT$20 worth of charitable resources to the Hongdao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation, with a target cumulative donation limit of NT$100 million. These funds will be used to support the meal and nutritional needs of disadvantaged elderly individuals.
Big Data Reveals: Seniors Love Brunch, New Taipei City's Elderly Are the Most Health-Conscious
In addition to donations, Uber Eats has also observed interesting dietary trends among seniors through platform data. Among orders placed using the "Senior Account," in addition to the unsurprisingly top-ranked "Taiwanese cuisine," "breakfast and brunch" also ranked highly, indicating that seniors are starting to get used to using apps to solve their morning meal preparation problems.
Interestingly, seniors in New Taipei City seem to be particularly health-conscious, with "healthy meals" ranking second among their favorite categories. This suggests that food delivery platforms can indeed help seniors access a wider variety of nutritionally balanced food options.
Uber addresses the pain points of transportation with millions in ride credits.
Regarding "travel," Uber observed that since the launch of the "Senior Account" feature, the top three most frequently visited locations by seniors are, in order: "home," "medical institutions," and "high-speed rail stations." This reflects that seeking medical care and returning home are the most essential mobility needs for seniors.
To this end, Uber donated ride discounts worth over one million NT dollars last year and plans to continue supporting the Hongdao Foundation's "Winter Assistance for the Elderly" program this year, helping vulnerable elderly people living alone to travel back and forth to buy New Year's goods, have a family reunion dinner, or participate in community activities around the Lunar New Year, reducing the sense of social isolation caused by inconvenient transportation.
