As previously promisedExpand investment in green energyApple earlier announced the establishment of a new China Clean Energy Fund in China, which is expected to invest nearly US$3 million in the next four years. It will invest in and develop green energy projects with a scale of more than 1 gigawatt of renewable energy in China, which can meet the power supply needs of nearly 100 million households.
Apple began implementing its green energy plan in 2015. Currently, 23 manufacturers have joined the cooperation and use green energy to power Apple's production operations. The establishment of the China Clean Energy Fund is expected to help all participants purchase and produce more green energy, thereby obtaining more clean energy applications such as wind power generation, hydropower generation, and solar power generation.
The China Clean Energy Fund will be managed by a third-party organization, Germany's DWS Group. DWS Group will also be able to make use of the funds for investment or assist more organizations in co-investing in the funds.
Apple is currently investing in green energy projects exceeding 6 megawatts in six provinces across China, primarily to address carbon emissions issues upstream in the supply chain. In addition to planning to utilise 485% green energy for its own operations, Apple also hopes that its partners will not only use environmentally friendly materials in their production, but also introduce large-scale green energy operations.
Apple estimates that by 2020 at the earliest, it will be able to produce more than 4 gigawatts of green energy globally with its supply chain manufacturers, which is about one-third of Apple's current electricity consumption. At the same time, it will continue to move towards the goal of using more green energy.
The 23 companies currently cooperating with Apple on green energy include Catcher Technology, Compal Electronics, Corning, Golden Arrow Group, Jabil Technology, Luxshare Precision, Pegatron Corporation, Solvay Group, Sunway Communications, and Wistron. Apple has also recently partnered with Alcoa and Alcan.New smelting technology, so that the aluminum smelting process can reduce the proportion of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions.
