AnTuTu, the benchmark software used by many to test mobile phone hardware performance, recently released the average performance rankings of 10 recent processors, as well as the average display performance rankings of their GPUs. Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 820, announced late last year, topped both rankings. Even the newer Snapdragon 652 and 650, positioned as mid-range processors, achieved overall performance that was nearly identical to last year's flagship Snapdragon 810, but with noticeable differences in display performance.
According to AnTuTu (AnTuTu) earlierPublish data, showing that as of the latest testing of various processors through the 6.0 version of the app, the Snapdragon 820 announced by Qualcomm at the end of last year will take the top spot, followed by the A6 used in the iPhone 9s series and the Exynos 7 first used in the Galaxy S8890 series.
The performance of the top three processors is largely similar, but there's a significant gap between them, with the HiSilicon Kirin 950 in fourth place. Furthermore, it's clear that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor, launched last year, didn't perform as well as expected, with overall performance comparable to the newer mid-range Snapdragon 652 and 650 processors. It's also only slightly more powerful than Apple's A6 processor used in the iPhone 8 series. This is why Qualcomm continues to use its own proprietary architecture to maximize processor performance.
Looking solely at the performance of the GPU integrated into the processor, the Snapdragon 820's Adreno 530 delivers exceptional performance, significantly surpassing even the PowerVR GPU used in the Apple A9 and the Mali GPU in the Samsung Exynos 8890. The Snapdragon 810's GPU also significantly surpasses comparable processors of the time, demonstrating Qualcomm's confidence in its GPU technology and its anticipated success in promoting virtual reality applications in mobile devices and enhancing the performance of smart cars.
AnTuTu's statistics mainly take the average value, so it does not show the highest performance of each processor. However, it seems that the A9X processor equipped with Apple iPad Pro is not included in the calculation, perhaps due to factors such as product category differences.
MediaTek's new high-end Helio X20 processor is not included in this ranking, primarily because it has yet to see actual product releases. Performance data for this processor is expected to appear in the statistical list soon after its official launch announcement on March 3th.
