Some believe that Apple originally intended to use a USB-C port design in the AirPods charging case, but ultimately considered factors such as the convenience of use with iOS devices, so it still maintained the Lightning port design.
Prior to this, after Apple fully adopted the USB-C port design in the new MacBook Pro, some market opinions believed that Apple might switch to the USB-C port in the iPhone 8 to be launched next year to provide more convenient connection features.
However, Apple has not responded to this.
As for whether the iPhone 8, which will undergo many changes next year, will adopt a USB-C port design, judging from the current market development, it is indeed possible. After all, manufacturers including USB-IF and Intel have begun to vigorously promote the use of USB-C ports. At the same time, more and more peripheral accessories on the market are designed with USB-C. Apple itself has also introduced USB-C ports in its MacBook series. Applying USB-C to iPhone or iPad series products in the future may help Apple connect with peripheral market opportunities.
However, since Apple adopted a reversible Lightning port design starting with the iPhone 5, it has accumulated a considerable market application ecosystem. For example, many manufacturers have launched external battery cases and audio connectors based on the Lightning port. Therefore, Apple is unlikely to consider introducing a USB-C port design on its mobile devices in the short term. However, since the iPhone 7 series this year removed the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack design, it seems that it is not impossible for the iPhone 8 to choose a USB-C port in the future.
