Sony earlier announced an update to its high-end full-frame mirrorless camera, the α9 II.α2017 launched in 9It offers a faster operating experience and smarter autofocus performance.
The sensor still uses the 2420-megapixel Exmor RS CMOS design, and maintains a mechanical shutter performance of up to 10 frames per second and an electronic shutter high-speed shooting effect of up to 20 frames per second. As for the number of autofocus points, it still has 693 points, corresponding to 93% coverage area, and the number of phase detection points is 425 points.
The α9 II, powered by the new Bionz X processor and featuring artificial intelligence, can achieve up to 60 continuous autofocus shots, automatically calculate exposure every second, and even support eye-focusing for both humans and animals. The camera's grip has also been enhanced, with 5-axis body shake reduction to mitigate the effects of camera shake.
In terms of shooting, the α9 II supports 4K video recording, but it can only record 8-bit color, which is not as good as the αXNUMX II.α7R IVAdditional support for 10-bit color, as well as S-Log2 and S-Log3 recording formats.
The connection interface includes a Sony-specific hot shoe mount, which can be used with accessories such as external microphones and external flashes. The connection port adopts the USB-C 3.2 specification and supports HDMI output, as well as a shared jack for microphones and headphones. The battery also uses Sony's new Z series battery. When fully charged, it can meet the needs of approximately 500-690 shots (without opening the electronic viewfinder). In addition, a second set of batteries can be expanded through the vertical handle.
In terms of memory card slots, the α9 II is equipped with two SD memory card slots, supporting UHS-II or UHS-I specification memory cards. The dual card slots ensure that shooting work will not be affected by damage to a single memory card or card slot.
In terms of suggested retail price, the α9 II body alone will be sold at US$4500 and is expected to be officially launched in November this year.
